MAKING
Making
I make pottery because it grounds me.
When I'm making, everything else becomes quieter.
The clay asks for my full attention, and somehow the rest of life waits its turn.
These pieces aren't made quickly.
They're made one at a time, slowly, usually with a cup of tea nearby and a lot of mess.

How I work
Most pieces begin with an idea.
Sometimes they stay as that idea.
Sometimes the clay has other plans.
I rarely make two things exactly the same.
That's one of the things I enjoy most.
I like letting the clay have a say.

The Garagio
This is where most of the pots begin.
It's technically a garage.
It behaves much more like a workshop.
It gets very cold in winter.
There is usually clay somewhere it shouldn't be.
Most ideas start here.

Materials
I mostly work in stoneware clay using a small palette of glazes.
Reactive white.
Iron lustre.
Celadon green.
I enjoy seeing how each firing changes them slightly.
No two kiln openings are quite the same.

Meaningful pieces
I don't usually make copies of previous work.
Part of the enjoyment is seeing where each piece goes.
If you have an idea that's personal or meaningful, I'd always be happy to hear about it.
Sometimes those become my favourite things to make.

A few things I believe
Useful things deserve to be beautiful.
The kettle improves most situations.
Clay has opinions.
Small rituals matter.
Homes should feel lived in.
Slow is not the same as lazy.
There is nearly always a cup of tea somewhere nearby.
